Synopsis[]

Following Season 1’s prison riot, everyone is hyper vigilant. It's more intimate, as the characters are steered into their most darkest impulses.[2] In season 2, they are going to kick things up another notch, now tacking on the issue of police brutality. The police are out of control and the prison is a mess. Everyone is being pushed to their breaking points, and Mike is the only one who can set up a system that will prevent it from happening again. To keep things under control, he’s willing to do whatever it takes. The pressure is mounting for Mike, though, and he’s starting to buckle. The Kingstown police force are using excessive force, violence is high both inside and outside of the prison, and Mike’s gonna have to make some risky decisions to clean things up.Meanwhile, the riot caused Bunny’s drug business to take a hit. Mike is faced with angry prisoners, as well as cops who are ready to throw down. Stopping an all-out war from breaking out could prove to be an impossible challenge. Mike is also dealing with Iris, who is trying to recover from her trauma at the hands of Milo. It looks like their chances of getting their happy ending and escaping Kingstown for good are getting smaller by the day. There’s not even a guarantee that Mike can protect Iris from Milo. Will she get a tragic end?[3]

Notes and Trivia[]

  • On February 1, 2022, it was announced that the series was renewed for a second season. However, it was initially not stated at the time how many episodes it will consist, nor when it will premiere.[9]
  • On July 14, 2022, it was revealed that Nishi Munshi, who recurred as the character of Tracy McLusky in Season 1, has been promoted to series regular for this season.[5]
  • On September 20, 2022, it was revealed that Gratiela Brancusi (1883) and Lane Garrison (Yellowstone) have joined the Season 2 cast of Paramount+’s Mayor of Kingstown in recurring roles. Brancusi will play Tatiana, a hostess at the Cheetah Nightclub. While Garrison will play Carney, one of the higher-ranking prison guards at Kingstown and an associate of Mike’s (Jeremy Renner).[6]
  • On April 7, 2022, according to Dillon, the crew were on the ground in Pittsburgh,PA where some location scouting took place too.[10]
  • On January 6, 2023, it was revealed some of the returning cast for this season.[11]
  • On January 11, 2023, it was reported that Season 2 filmed in parts of the North Side, Presque Isle and other areas of Western Pennsylvania from June through October 2022.[12]
  • On January 15, 2023, Hugh Dillon talked about where the new season is going and how Renner’s injuries will impact when — or if — production resumes on a third season. (even though the show has not received a third season pickup yet). [2]
    • Theme to this season according to Dillon is that everyone is hyper vigilant. It’s more intimate because these characters do what they do. Thus, they have steered into what’s triggering these people who are predisposed to their most darkest impulses.[2]
    • Taylor and Dillon also stated that they have multiple ideas for multiple seasons. So if everything goes according to plan with Paramount+ and the rest of it, Dillon thinks they'd start in August or September, with maybe pre-production in the summer.[2]
  • On January 17, 2023 two weeks after getting severely injured in a “weather related incident”, it was revealed that Renner was back at home with his family, while reminding people to watch his Paramount+ series Mayor Of Kingstown.[13]
    • Also on this day, out of respect for Renner, Paramount+ updated their key art so Renner wouldn’t look so damaged. The previous shot that was taken to promote season 2, showed the actor with multiple face cuts that he presumably suffered after walking into last season’s prison riot. However, in the new image, Renner only looks kind of dirty, and with less bruises and cuts.[14]
  • On January 21, 2023, Dillon said that as far as spin-offs like with Yellowstone, right now he's focused on the second season. So while he isn't outright shutting down possible spinoffs, Dillon admits they need to be great ideas.[15]
    • Also on this day, Nichole Galicia released a promotional poster of her character via Twitter.[16]
  • On February 22, 2023, Kevin Inouye and David Vegh two faculty members from Case Western Reserve University’s Department of Theater, were revealed to be taking part in this season of Mayor of Kingstown.[8]
